DUE DILIGENCE – it’s that term that we hear everywhere in the workplace but what does it actually mean? How do you actually demonstrate due diligence? How can you prove your due diligence?

Due diligence is the level of judgement, care and activity that a person would be reasonably expected to do under a certain circumstance. The problem is that every scenario has many different ways to be diligent. As a supervisor or manager in the workplace, you need to be equipped with tangible steps you can take to ensure you are diligent.
Ignorance is no defense; know your legal obligations, responsibilities, and industry’s best practices. It imperative that you take the time to learn.
Identify issues for your workplace. Review incidents and trends, inspections, audit findings, program evaluations, and input from workers.
Ensure your company’s health and safety program includes all relevant policies, procedures, and practices. Communicate the safety program to all workers. Check to make sure the program is followed and enforce compliance.
Review company systems and processes frequently. Continuously assess health and safety in the workplace. Monitor changes in regulation and industry practices and apply changes, as necessary.
Be able to demonstrate how you are implementing your health and safety program. Having thorough documentation is crucial in demonstrating due diligence.
